Journalists recently reported that Russian pharmacies are decreasing the availability of potent psychotropic drugs that require strict quantitative tracking. However, Federal Service for Surveillance in Healthcare (Roszdravnadzor) denied this information and stated that there was no shortage of psychotropic drugs. The department has reported that in 2023, the amount of narcotics, psychotropic substances, and powerful drugs distributed to the public matches last year’s statistics.
“According to Roszdravnadzor, this year the number of packages of narcotic, psychotropic and potent drugs introduced into civilian circulation corresponds to the figures for 2022. There are no signs of a shortage of the listed drugs on the Russian market,” the statement says.
Roszdravnadzor reminded that narcotic and psychotropic drugs can be dispensed by pharmacies with the appropriate license. A pharmacy organization can sell drugs that are subject to subject-quantitative accounting only with a doctor’s prescription.
