The Russian Ministry of Health has granted permission to carry out clinical trials for a new drug aimed at neutralizing botulinum toxin A. This breakthrough is the result of the remarkable work by the team at the Gamaleya National Center of Epidemiology and Microbiology.
“This drug is based on monoclonal antibodies, designed to effectively bind toxins present in the patient’s bloodstream,” quoted the Russian Health Minister, Mikhail Murashko.
According to the center, during preclinical trials the drug ensured 100% survival of animals. It can be compared to the effects of anti-botulinum horse serum, which is used for the emergency prevention and treatment of rabies and botulism.
