Cuba plans to establish a joint pharmaceutical production venture with Russia to manufacture medicines with unique properties, according to information from the state-owned Cuban pharmaceutical company BioCubaFarma, as reported by the local newspaper Cubadebate.

Eulogio Pimentel, First Vice President of BioCubaFarma, along with heads of other Cuban pharmaceutical organizations, presented a range of medicines for potential joint production to their Russian partners. The proposed drugs include treatments for diabetic ulcers of the lower extremities and tissue regenerators.

Currently, Cuba is also developing innovative vaccines and anticancer drugs. Experts note that the country’s medical institutions have gained significant experience in treating oncological diseases, particularly lung and gastrointestinal cancers, with the use of original medicines.

BioCubaFarma representatives expressed their readiness to share production technologies with the Russian side, contingent upon the registration and approval of Russian medicines for the Cuban market.

The Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) has voiced support for these initiatives. Chinara Mambetalieva, Deputy Director of the EEC Technical Regulation and Accreditation Department, said at the meeting with representatives of the Cuban pharmaceutical market: «We hope that by the end of 2025 pharmaceutical manufacturers in Cuba will have completed the necessary procedures for converting registration dossiers to the EAEU format and will also be able to ensure the preparation of registration dossiers and the launch of new medicines on our market without undue haste».
