The prevention vaccine of influenza produced by the St. Petersburg Research Institute of Vaccines and Serums of the FMBA of Russia (SPbNIIVS) and the Mechnikov Latin American Institute of Biotechnology was delivered to Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, February 17, reports SPbNIIVS FMBA of Russia.
In the 2020-2021 season, 3 million doses of influenza vaccine were produced for the Latin American country on the SPbNIIVS FMBA platform of Russia. The vaccine was produced in November – December 2020 and sent to Nicaragua for the final stages of production (bottling, packaging) and further transfer to the Venezuelan side, using the capabilities of the second production site of SPbNIIVS FMBA of Russia, located in Central America – Mechnikov Institute JSC.
Annual deliveries of vaccine to Venezuela are carried out on behalf of President Vladimir Putin as part of the agreements of the presidents of the two countries reached in 2019 during the visit of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro to Moscow. In the 2021-2022 season, according to Putin’s instructions, the SPbNIIVS FMBA of Russia plans to produce 5 million doses of influenza vaccine for Venezuela.
