The list of medical nutrition products for disabled children will be expanded by eight positions in 2022. The corresponding order was signed by Mikhail Mishustin, the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation. This was reported in the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers.

The updated list contains 94 items in total. Some of the new positions are therapeutic nutrition for children with phenylketonuria, cystic fibrosis and fatty-acid metabolism disorders.

Medical nutrition products are necessary for children with orphan diseases. The most common are specialized liquid and dry formulas. They are purchased at the expense of the federal budget, and then provided to patients free of charge on the attending doctor’s prescription. The list is annually formed by a special commission of the Ministry of Health with the participation of the chief freelance specialist in medical genetics. Then the document is to be approved by the government.

“These are products necessary for young patients with health issues. And every child who needs them should be provided with them in a timely manner,” Mishustin said during a government meeting held on Thursday, December 16.

The Prime Minister of the Russian Federation asked the heads of regions to closely monitor this issue.

As it became known earlier, the Cabinet of Ministers will allocate almost 22 billion rubles for medical care for children with serious illnesses.
