According to Mikhail Mishustin, the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Russia’s strategic task is to organize local production of the drugs which are now only available as imports from other countries. At the same time, it is necessary to support bona fide suppliers. The head of the Cabinet of Ministers said this on Wednesday, April 27, during a meeting with Alla Samoilova, the head of Roszdravnadzor.

As Mishustin recalled, the government has taken a number of measures to simplify the import of foreign medicines for which there are no replacements in the Russian Federation. But “it should be done carefully, without compromising quality.”

“Other companies are now looking for the opportunity to work in the Russian market. We give priority to friendly countries. The strategic task is to establish production at home. But if bona fide suppliers enter our market, then this work should be carried out carefully, it is necessary to help them occupy a worthy niche and ensure competitiveness, quality and the ability to provide all medicines, especially vital ones, in the required quantity,” Mikhail Mishustin is quoted as saying by TASS.

In addition, the Prime Minister asked Alla Samoylova to take personal control of the situation with the provision of medicines to Russian regions, including with the use of the information system for monitoring the movement of medicines. “It is necessary to monitor the compliance of drugs with safety and quality requirements,” he said.

Mishustin previously spoke about a new set of proposals aimed at supporting the pharmaceutical business.
