The Moscow region has achieved a significant increase in the production of pharmaceutical substances in the first six months of 2022. During the reporting period, it increased by 8.5% y-o-y. This was reported in the press service of the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Science of the region.

“In January–June this year, pharmaceutical companies in the Moscow region increased the production of substances by 8.5% compared to last year’s figures. This will reduce the dependence of the domestic pharmaceutical industry on imported supplies. In general, the production of medicines and medical materials increased by 30.1% during the reporting period. In monetary terms, the volume of shipments of pharmaceutical enterprises exceeded 115 billion rubles,”  Ekaterina Zinovieva, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Investment, Industry and Science of the region, said.

As she mentioned, the pharmaceutical industry of the Moscow region has been developing at a faster pace over the recent years. In 2020, the industrial production of medicines and materials grew by 32.3%. By the end of last year, this indicator increased by another 15.2%.

According to Zinovieva, the region is currently implementing several other major projects in the pharmaceutical industry, including in the production of substances, which is one of the priority areas of import substitution. For example, in the Khimki municipal district, KhimRar Holding is investing in the launch of an enterprise for the production of substances to be used in the manufacturing of COVID-19 and HIV therapies.

Another project is being implemented in the Dubna municipal district. As part of the second stage of its investment project to create a full cycle of drug production, PSK Pharma is going to build a center on the basis of its own plant for the manufacture of substances for biotechnological drugs to treat cancer and rheumatoid arthritis.

As the press service stressed, a total of 8 import substitution projects in the pharmaceutical industry have been announced in the region.

As it became known earlier, an Indian company is going to launch cancer drugs production in the Moscow region.
