RNC Pharma: the range of veterinary medicines in the retail market has grown

The total volume of the retail commercial market of veterinary drugs in Russia (including the online segment) from Q1 to Q3 of 2022 amounted to 16.8 billion rubles (in retail prices, including VAT). The y-o-y change in rubles was negative, at -3.6%. Even the active development of e-commerce does not help, as the growth of sales through the online channel in rubles reached 67% over the period, but this was not enough to compensate for the reduction in demand in the offline segment, RNC Pharma reports.

Veterinary drugs sales calculated in minimum marketed doses (MMD) fell 20%. The breakdown by channels shows the situation similar to the growth indicator in monetary terms: offline sales fell by 21%, while online increased by 33%. The total volume of sales of veterinary drugs for the period amounted to 107.5 million minimum units.

The results of the third quarter of 2022 did not differ much from the overall results of the period since the beginning of the year: the change varies by sales channel, while the drop in demand offline is not compensated by the growth of e.com. The overall y-o-y change in sales of veterinary medicines in Q3 amounted to -12% in rubles and -24% in natural units. Obviously, the activity of consumers is determined by several factors at once, from the hype demand at the beginning of 2022 to the atypical climatic conditions of last summer and the general drop in household incomes. Despite the change in demand, the qualitative development of the market continued steadily, including the growth of the assortment. The total number of trademarks on the retail market in January-September 2022 reached 1,255 units (32 names more than a year earlier),  the list broken down into trade names with product forms increased even more: according to analysts, there were 3425 items here within the analyzed period, 79 more than in the comparison period.

The absolute leader terms of growth in rubles from January to September 2022 was Racidol, an insecto-acaricidal drug supplied by Belarusia’s Rubicon, which has seen its sales increase 317 times over the year. The runner-up is also from Belarusia: it is Averon (from Belekotekhnika), an antidote and hepatoprotector that can be used for both agricultural animals and pets (155 times growth). However, both products are far from the top sellers; among the first hundred of best-selling drugs, experts mention Otoxolan (KRKA), an antimicrobial drug for pets, which had its sales grow 4.7 times over the year (in rubles).

In terms of natural units, the absolute maximum was recorded for Myoxyl, a sedative drug for farm animals and pets supplied by Russia’s Novaya Gruppa, with a 763 times increase in sales during the year (in MDU). The second place belongs esult belonged to Coli-Flox Pharm, an antibacterial agent manufactured by a Cyprus company Alpovet, with 65.4 times sales growth. And among the top products, there were no equals to Metronidazole supplied by Russia’s Ascont+, with sales increased 4.8 times compared to January–September 2021.
