Russia has sufficient stocks of influenza vaccine, as Dmitry Lioznov, the director of the A. A. Smorodintsev Research Institute of Influenza said at a press conference.

“We have several vaccine manufacturing companies in our country, including influenza vaccines producers. This gives us the possibility of full coverage of the population. This is a matter of biological security of the country, and we do not depend on foreign suppliers, as we make our own products. Russia has enough vaccines,” Lioznov said (as quoted by TASS).

Earlier, Anna Popova, the head of Rospotrebnadzor, reported that some Russian regions are facing a tough influenza incidence situation, including with swine flu. She also urged Russians to get vaccinated against the flu this week, saying that next week it might be too late.

On December 6, Aleksander Ginzburg, the director of the Gamaleya Center, announced the development of a vaccine that will protect against different strains of influenza, in particular, swine flu (H1N1) and possibly avian flu (H5N1).
