On June 8, 2023, a meeting between the General Director of Rosatom State Corporation Alexei Likhachev and Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Akylbek Zhaparov was held at the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council and the Council of Heads of Government of the CIS. During the conversation, the whole range of issues of bilateral cooperation was considered, including the reclamation of uranium tailings, low-power nuclear power plants and nuclear medicine.
“The main goal of the cooperation is the opening of a radiopharmaceutical pharmacy and a center where advanced methods of diagnosis and treatment of cancer and other diseases will be applied. Within the framework of the agreement, the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic and Rosatom are already cooperating in the issue of technological equipment and commissioning of the department of single photon emission computed tomography and a radiopharmaceutical pharmacy based on the National Center of Oncology and Hematology in Bishkek, ” the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic said in a statement.
A memorandum of cooperation in the field of non-energy application of nuclear technologies in healthcare was signed at the meeting. They both agreed to jointly develop high-tech medical projects in Kyrgyzstan.
