Starting on January 1, 2023, Russia has implemented an extensive neonatal screening program. If a newborn’s blood test detects a disease, the blood sample is then sent to the Moscow State Scientific Center for further investigation. Treatment commences promptly once the diagnosis is confirmed.
As of July 18, the scientific center has examined over 600,000 children through the program. Out of the total, 9,000 individuals were recommended for additional diagnostic tests, resulting in the discovery of 219 cases of different diseases, including genetic disorders.
