The production of antibiotics in Russia experienced growth of 150% in August

According to Rosstat, the production of medicines and materials used for medical purposes in August increased by 1.7% compared to August 2022 and by 4.8% compared to July of this year. Over the eight months of 2023, their production decreased by 5.1% compared to January–August 2022. Production of medicines increased by 7.2% and 3.6%, respectively, to 51.1 billion rubles. In January–August, 414 billion rubles worth of medicines were produced, which is 0.4% more than in the same period last year.

1.7 billion doses of serums and vaccines were produced in August, which is 23.8% more than in August 2022, but 4.9% less than in July 2023. The output in ampoules amounted to 691 thousand units, which is 10.3% less than in August 2022, but 88.3% more than in July 2023. In January–August 2023, production of serums and vaccines in doses increased by 8.8% compared to the same period in 2022, and in ampoules by 3.6%. The production of pharmaceutical substances decreased by 36% compared to August 2022, increasing by 75.5% compared to July of this year. In January–August 2023, they were produced 20.2% less than in the same period last year.

Production of provitamins, vitamins and their derivatives decreased by 27.1% and 24.3%, respectively, to 36.7 tons. The production of dressings and similar products, including those impregnated or coated with drugs, increased by 57.2% and 12.4% – up to 60 million packages. Over the eight months of 2023, 420 million packages were produced, which is 19.7% more than in January–August 2022. The production of adhesive dressings decreased by 59.6% and 66.9%, respectively, to 7.9 million packages. In January–August, 159 million packages of adhesive dressings were produced, which is 37.3% less than in the same period in 2022.

Equipment and devices used for medical purposes for diagnostics, irradiation, rehabilitation and therapy amounted to 4.3 billion rubles produced in August, which is 8.5% more than in August 2022, and 14.3% more than in July 2023. In general, over the eight months of this year, medical equipment of this type was produced for 27.8 billion rubles, which is 17.4% more than in January–August 2022, Rosstat added.
