Launched from the beginning of 2023, expanded neonatal screening covered 960 thousand newborns in Russia. With its help, it was possible to identify a hereditary disease in 411 children. Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko told reporters about this during a working trip to the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic.
“Today, the direction of screening for congenital diseases in children has been fully implemented. Screening in Russia has already covered more than 960 thousand newborns. And more than 411 hereditary diseases have been identified,” the official said.
He added that children with rare genetic diseases automatically become wards of the “Circle of Good” state fund; they are provided with medicines and medical products. Murashko also recalled that within the framework of the “Decade of Childhood” program, a perinatal service of 175 perinatal centers was formed in the country.
