Developing new drugs in space may be one of the key challenges for the implementers of the Russian Orbital Station (ROS) project. Director General Yuri Borisov told reporters about this during the 74th International Astronautical Congress in Baku.

He mentioned that alongside the ongoing manned space project, there are plans in place to advance new space technologies that cater to healthcare requirements. These endeavors aim to explore avenues for the creation of innovative materials and medicines, while also focusing on the development of technical solutions that can only be achieved with the involvement of human presence.

The idea of Russia creating its own orbital station was presented in 2021. By now, its preliminary design has been prepared and is undergoing examination. According to Vladimir Kozhevnikov, deputy chief designer of the Rocket and Space Corporation Energia (a part of Roscosmos) and the chief designer of ROS, the highly anticipated launch of the first scientific and energy module of the space station is scheduled to take place by the end of 2027. Moreover, the hub, gateway, base, and target modules are set to be launched between 2028 and 2030, providing a solid foundation for future space exploration endeavors.
