The Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin suggests transferring payment for oncological diseases to the Federal Compulsory Medical Insurance Fund, relieving regions of the burden of funding expensive medical care.

“From 20 to 30% of the funds [of territorial compulsory medical insurance funds] are taken specifically for oncology treatment from regional compulsory medical insurance funds. Let’s see, maybe we can bring this area to the federal level. Let’s unload regional funds,” he said during a discussion of the draft budget for 2024 and the planning period 2025-2026.

According to Volodin, the regions are currently facing a shortage of funds to cover the costs of advanced medical treatments. He emphasized the need to proactively search for viable solutions to this ongoing issue.
