During a joint direct line and press conference on December 14, Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the issue of vaccine shortages for infectious diseases such as measles, mumps, and rubella. He emphasized that the situation arose due to a technical failure and assured that it would be promptly resolved.
“I think that this will all be resolved in the near future. And in general, we have no questions with vaccinations or vaccines. “This [problem] has arisen, and it will be resolved soon,” he said.
The president identified a shortage of chicken eggs as one of the contributing factors to disruptions in vaccine supply. Eggs serve as a raw material for producing the measles vaccine. Putin also mentioned that the rise in measle cases correlates with a surge of refugees from Ukraine, where, according to him, immunization rates were reportedly severely low.
