The expert council of the state charitable Russian Foundation “Circle of Kindness” will consider the possibility of including 10 new items in the list of drugs purchased for children with orphan diseases. These are unique drugs that approximately 3,000 children need, said the head of the fund, Alexander Tkachenko, at the conference “Social partnership in the interests of children with serious illnesses,” which is being held at the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation.
“We are waiting to receive evidence of the effectiveness of the drugs and their registration in different countries. And after that they will be submitted to the expert council for consideration,” he clarified, adding that the purchase amount could amount to up to 40 billion rubles.
There are currently 103 orphan drugs on the list. They are intended to treat 88 diseases, which give the right to become a ward of the “Circle of Kindness”. As Tkachenko previously said, over the three years of the foundation’s operation, 23 thousand children received assistance in providing medicines and medical products.
