The Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation has registered a domestic drug for the treatment of ankylosing spondylitis, which is the first drug in the world that can potentially not only relieve the symptoms of the disease, but also stop its progression.

Ankylosing spondylitis, also known as axial spondyloarthritis, is an inflammatory disease that, over time, can cause some of the bones in the spine, called vertebrae, to fuse. This fusing makes the spine less flexible and can result in a hunched posture.

The Biocad company has developed the medicine together with scientists from the Russian National Research Medical University named after NI Pirogov, Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry named after academicians M. M. Shemyakin and Yu. A. Ovchinnikov.
