The Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation has recently approved a new drug for the treatment of ankylosing spondylitis, which is now in production and is expected to be available for sale in approximately three months. However, its testing is still ongoing, said Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko.
In Russia there are about 250 thousand patients with ankylosing spondylitis. This is a chronic disease in which antibodies mistake the cartilage tissue and joints of the body as foreign. Causes pain and stiffness in the spine, potentially leading to limited mobility.
According to the Russian Ministry of Health, the newly developed drug enables the destruction of pathological T-lymphocytes which harm the body’s own cells.
