Employees of the Federal Center for Animal Health Protection (FSBI “ARRIAH” of Rosselkhoznadzor) are working on the creation of vaccines against avian influenza for cattle, as well as for cats.

The basis for the start of work was the increasing number of cases around the world of detection of the H5N1 avian influenza virus in mammals and ruminants. Thus, in early July, according to the US Department of Agriculture, H5 avian influenza was confirmed in cows on 139 farms in 12 states. There are 27 outbreaks reported in Colorado.

H5N1 is one of several influenza viruses that causes a highly infectious respiratory disease in birds called avian influenza (or “bird flu”). Infections in mammals, including humans, have also been documented.
