The Russian State Duma has approved a law in its second and third readings that prohibits the sale of expired medications or those with unreadable labels in the drug labeling system (MDLP). The law will take effect on March 1, 2025, amending Articles 57 and 67 of the “Law on Circulation of Medicines.” Previously, the law only explicitly banned the sale of counterfeit, substandard, and fake drugs.
This regulation does not apply to medicines produced before July 1, 2020, or those designated for patients with certain serious conditions like hemophilia, cystic fibrosis, and multiple sclerosis, as well as those requiring organ transplants.
