The Circle of Goodness Charity Foundation has decided to finance combined surgical treatment of children who have had bone sarcomas. This initiative was put forward by theTurner National Medical Research Center for Children’s Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery.
Sergei Vissarionov, Director of the Research Center, notes that children treated for bone sarcomas with joint endoprostheses may develop orthopedic issues like limb shortening, pelvic tilt, and multiplanar limb deformities. The proposed treatment includes one-stage correction of disorders and replacement of the worn joint endoprosthesis or module.
A domestic endoprosthesis for such operations is made individually for each child. Furthermore, manufacturers of this medical device can replace a specific module of an imported endoprosthesis if it has already been installed in a child.
Centers experts estimate around 200 endoprosthetic operations annually are needed for patients with malignant bone neoplasms. Each year, the Circle of Kindness foundation plans surgeries for 8–10 children, including orthopedic corrections and modular endoprosthetics. The amount of funding is not disclosed.
