The Russian Federation has made a noteworthy impact in the global battle against the spread of monkeypox, following the World Health Organization’s declaration of a public health emergency due to the rising number of cases. In her greeting to the participants of the III International Training Exercises for Rapid Response Mobile Laboratories, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova made this assertion.
She emphasized that Russia has provided thousands of diagnostic tests for monkeypox to the CIS and African countries. In addition, Russian specialists have conducted joint research in several African countries, including Burundi, Rwanda and Uganda.
She also noted the expansion of Russia’s international cooperation in the fight against infectious diseases. In the last seven years, four infectious disease research centers have been established in Guinea, Vietnam, Venezuela, and Burundi, where Russian specialists collaborate with international experts.
Golikova mentioned five projects being implemented with the CIS countries, with which Russia shares a common epidemiological space. In addition, she reported on the expansion of the geography of the use of Russian mobile laboratories. This year marked the commencement of operations in Burundi and Uganda, with plans to expand further by the end of the year to deliver services to the Republic of Congo and Ethiopia.
