The Federal Medical and Biological Agency (FMBA) of Russia aims to reach a milestone in donor blood procurement this year. According to the head of the FMBA, Veronika Skvortsova, the planned volume should be 2.7 million liters.
She noted that this volume “surpasses not only the totals from all previous years, but also the figures for 2023, which was also highly successful.” In general, according to statistics, since 2019, blood procurement volumes have increased by almost one and a half times. Blood plasma progress has surged, with current figures surpassing 2021 levels by 20 times, benefiting medicine production.
Skvortsova announced that, following the execution of the procurement enhancement strategy, 600,000 liters of plasma for industrial use were officially registered by November 1, 2024. By year-end, 750 thousand liters of blood products will be available for all Russian citizens.
