Medicinal product and medical device production has grown nearly 21% in the past 5 years

Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova announced that the Russian Federation aims to boost the domestic production of medicines to 90%. She noted that Russia’s production of medical products experienced a significant increase of 14% in the first nine months of 2024 when compared to the same timeframe the previous year. Over the past five years, the production of medicines and medical devices has surged by nearly 21%. During a speech at the national congress with international participation “National Healthcare,” Golikova announced that spending on paying for medical care has increased by 1.5 trillion rubles over the past five years, and by the end of 2024 will reach 4.5 trillion rubles.
Golikova emphasized that research in the field of healthcare is actively developing. Over 400 scientific, medical, and educational institutions are actively conducting nearly 5,500 research projects aimed at advancing healthcare.
“120 billion rubles have been allocated from various sources for these purposes. The number of studies in the interests of healthcare has increased many times over the past five years. We have started implementing new projects, updated the infrastructure of scientific organizations, and created conditions for the development of the medical and pharmaceutical industries. In 2023 alone, Russian medical products worth over 1 trillion rubles were produced. The overall growth in the production of medicines and medical products over the past five years has increased by almost 21%, while in the first nine months of 2024, compared to the same period last year, the growth in the production of medicines and materials used for medical purposes was 14%,” she said. This made it possible to produce over 400 million packages of medicines and more than 60 million medical products, she said.
