RNC Pharma reports that in October 2024, Russians’ total expenditure on pharmaceuticals reached an unprecedented 151.6 billion rubles, marking a new historical high. From January to October, the retail pharmaceutical market volume was 1.33 trillion rubles, a 16.6% increase from 2023. The main growth factor was the increase in drug prices, but the increase in household income also stimulated the transition to more expensive drugs.
From January to October 2024, drug sales in Russia reached 4.04 billion packages, a 1.3% increase from the previous year. Consumption in minimum dosage units (MDU) increased by 2.5%, reaching 79.2 billion MDU, which is due to an increase in the fractional size of packages. At the same time, the natural sales volumes for October – 436.4 million packages – did not become a record, although growth compared to October 2023 was 3.2%.
