The Russian Ministry of Health has introduced a new Code of Ethics for AI use in healthcare. The document was developed with the participation of leading freelance specialists and experts, and was also agreed upon by the interdepartmental working group on AI in medicine, the press service of the department reported.

The Code addresses the ethical development and use of AI technologies to protect patients’ interests and build trust among medical professionals. It sets out basic principles such as limited autonomy of AI systems, patient safety and data confidentiality.

“AI provides broad opportunities for improving the efficiency of medical care due to the emergence of high-quality services that help doctors receive and process large amounts of information. In the Russian Federation, 38 medical products using artificial intelligence technologies have already been registered, and most of them are domestic developments,” the report says.

In Russia, 38 medical products using AI have already been registered, which are used to support medical decisions based on the analysis of medical data, including X-ray images and video streams during endoscopic procedures. The Ministry of Health is currently working on scenarios for introducing these technologies into clinical practice, which should contribute to the development of safe and competitive solutions in the field of healthcare.
