Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko has announced a significant increase in the number of students enrolled in medical universities over the past five years. The number of students in specialist programs has grown by 129,000, reaching a total of 361,000. Additionally, there has been an increase in the number of graduates with higher medical education, with their numbers rising by 7,300. The number of students completing residency programs has more than doubled, from 7,500 to 17,500.
Despite these positive trends, Mikhail Murashko noted that the shortage of medical personnel persists. In response, new rules for paid admissions to medical universities will be introduced starting from 2026 to address the imbalance in the labor market. H emphasized that while progress has been made, the issue of personnel shortages remains unresolved, and further measures are needed to address it effectively.
