Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin approved the creation of a center for developing mRNA technologies to innovate in drug development, including cancer treatments. The center will operate as a consortium comprising 17 prestigious scientific organizations, including the Blokhin National Medical Research Center of Oncology and Sechenov Moscow State Medical University. The leading organization will be the Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology.
The Cabinet of Ministers announced that the center will focus on the holistic advancement of mRNA technologies to develop innovative medications for the treatment and prevention of a wide range of diseases.
“The center will ensure the comprehensive development of the direction for the development and production of innovative drugs based on mRNA technologies for the treatment and prevention of various diseases, including severe ones,” the Cabinet of Ministers noted.
It was also reported that approximately 600 million rubles had previously been allocated from the government’s reserve fund for the purchase of equipment for the production of such drugs.
