The State Duma Committee on Science and Higher Education has supported an amendment that would completely prohibit distance learning for doctors and pharmacists in Russia. This initiative, introduced by a group of deputies led by Vyacheslav Volodin, will be considered during the second reading of a bill regulating medical education. The decision is explained by the necessity to improve the quality of training for specialists.
“The amendment establishes a ban on distance and electronic learning for medical education programs,” explained the committee chairman, Sergey Kabyshev, during the committee meeting.
The full text of the amendment states: “The implementation of professional educational programs in medical and pharmaceutical education using electronic learning and distance educational technologies is not permitted.” Kabyshev clarified that this provision pertains to training in colleges and universities, as well as obtaining additional professional education (continuing education and retraining).
