Andrey Ivashchenko, Chairman of the Board of Directors of KhimRar Group, Professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), noted that there is now a high demand for technologists in Russia’s pharmaceutical industry. He says the country now sees growing production of many drugs. However, the industry expects that soon there will be a demand for scientists developing new drugs, the expert noted in an exclusive interview with Nauka program on Rossiya 24.
«Now the main demand from the pharmaceutical industry is for technologists, as companies increase their production, and they need more people. But this started 5 or 7 years ago, and the industry now has more or less enough technologists. There is now little demand from our pharmaceutical industry for drug development. But it will happen, we still expect it», — Ivashchenko said.
Earlier, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said during the Government’s report to the State Duma that the volume of drug production in Russia increased by 21.5% in 2024, amounting to about 800 billion rubles, and the share of domestic drugs has exceeded 64%.
The suspension of the activity of foreign pharmaceutical companies in Russia has led to the formation of a pool of fast-growing domestic drug manufacturers. They managed not only to become more visible in the market, but also to achieve a significant increase in sales. According to the Forbes rating, Ozon Pharmaceuticals became the best pharmaceutical manufacturer in Russia in 2024, with sales of 49.4 billion rubles. It is followed by Binnopharm Group (part of AFK Sistema) and Pharmasyntez.
