The Russian government has reorganized FMBA’s Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Federal Center for Design and Development of Nuclear Medicine Facilities”, transforming it into a federal state budgetary institution of the same name. According to the government decree, the FMBA, together with Rosimushchestvo, has to complete all necessary formalities within three months.

The main objectives of the institution include conducting research, development, design, and experimental technological work on the development of radiopharmaceutical drugs and technologies for creating radiation sources for medical use, as well as producing medical equipment for nuclear medicine. The document also outlines the need for radio-hygienic and methodological support for work with radioactive sources.

FMBA has been assigned the functions and powers of the founder, with financing for implementing the order being sourced from budgetary allocations provided to the Agency, and without any additional funds allocated for this purpose.

In January 2025, FMBA proposed to remove the Federal Center for Design and Development of Nuclear Medicine Facilities from the list of strategic enterprises and joint-stock companies, citing the necessity of joining the A.I. Burnazyan Federal Medical Biophysical Center. This move aims to bolster the development of modern radiobiology and ensure the country’s supply of radionuclide preparations, radioprotectors, and radiomitigators.

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the decree related to the restructuring in March 2025; however, it remains unclear whether the merger has taken place.
