The injection cosmetology market is growing. In 2024, 8,7 million such procedures were performed in Russia, and by the end of 2025, their number may grow by 15-20%, analysts predict. However, up to half of the injections are still performed semi-legally. The editors of GxP News studied what the future holds for this sector.

A New Driver

According to the annual national research conducted by the consulting company «Right to Health», in 2024 the market of cosmetic injections grew by 34%, reaching 8,7 million procedures. This is three times higher than the growth in 2023 (10%). The market exceeded 92 billion rubles, 14% growth y-o-y. The analysts took into account the most popular cosmetic procedures in Russia: botulinum therapy, contouring and biorevitalization.

The largest contribution to growth was shown by the biorevitalization segment: the number of procedures increased by 46%, to 3,8 million. In monetary terms, this procedure provides more than a third of sales, in the amount of 38 billion rubles. While botulinum therapy and contouring have shown significantly lower growth, the demand for biorevitalization has been steadily growing for the third year in a row, experts say. Before 2022, patients prefered treatments with immediate effect, whereas now the focus is increasingly shifting to the prevention of aging and improvement of skin quality.

It is also noteworthy that in 2024, collagen-based cosmetic injectable products became one of the main trends and a key driver of the development of aesthetic medicine in Russia. The rapid growth of interest in these drugs has marked the transformation of the market. According to Rustem Muratov, general director of Binnopharm Group, clients in Russia and around the world are no longer eager to have hyaluronic acid treatments.

«Cosmetologists are looking for innovative solutions, one of which is collagen injections, which are becoming increasingly more popular. In this segment, we are represented by the Collost brand. Now the product accounts for more than 50% of injection cosmetology. This may indicate a high demand for domestic developments in the industry», — Muratov said.

The company says that the demand for injectable collagen products increased by 75%, reaching almost 2,7 billion rubles, while the entire biorevitalizant market went up by only 11%. As noted by dermatologist and cosmetologist Svetlana Danilova, the popularity of this segment lies in the fact that such products not only have an instant effect, but also help in eliminating and preventing age-related changes. This makes them especially attractive compared to traditional biorevitalizants, she believes.

According to experts, in 2025-2026, the Russian market of injectable cosmetology will grow by 15-20% annually. Zion Market Research project that the average annual growth rate worldwide until 2030 will be 4,5% annually. The global volume of the market is expected to reach $72,33 billion by the end of the decade.

Illegal Sales

However, the growth of the market for cosmetic and injection procedures also means higher risks of the use of poor quality products. Today, up to half of the injectable drugs used in popular categories of aesthetic medicine are not registered by Roszdravnadzor, according to analysts of the Right to Health. They state that every year more and more counterfeit medicines and medical devices are found in the market.

For example,in 2022-2023 seven unregistered botulinum toxin products were used in the field of injectable cosmetology, and in 2024 there were as many as 13. They include Refinex, Hutox, Meditoxin, NeuroBloc, and Zerotox. Of the 127 fillers on the market in 2024, only 69% have a Roszdravnadzor medical device registration certificate. In the segment of biorevitalizants, this share is 53% (a total of 133 brands), experts say.

The authorities are also aware of the problem. The issue of counterfeit was raised during a round table in support of Russian manufacturers of medicines and medical devices for injection cosmetology, which took place on April 16 in RIA Novosti. As noted by Ekaterina Priezzheva, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, the government sees the need to ensure legal origin of medical devices in general and injection cosmetology products in particular.

«An experiment on labeling fillers and cosmetic filaments continues until August 31, 2025. The initiative to label this group was developed by the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade together with Roszdravnadzor and manufacturing enterprises that face a significant proportion of gray imports, as well as the import of unregistered products from abroad», — she stressed.

According to the deputy minister, the labeling mechanism will increase market transparency, make the beauty industry safer and ultimately contribute to the circulation of high-quality, effective and safe medical products on the market, including Russian-made ones.

According to Natalia Manturova, chief consultant plastic surgeon at the Russian Ministry of Health and the Moscow Department of Health, domestic companies are currently developing advanced products that are not inferior to their foreign counterparts.

«Contrary to popular belief, domestic manufacturers produce not only analogues of foreign products. Almost all Russian manufacturers of injection cosmetology products has its own research and technical developments. And the trials on these products are done as thoroughly as those for the products of foreign suppliers», — says Manturova.

According to the requirements of Roszdravnadzor, the safety of new medical devices is monitored for 3 years after registration, the expert specified. She said that today all the leading Russian drug manufacturers are actively involved in post-marketing clinical trials, expanding the evidence base of their products.
