Scientists at the Vector State Research Center of Virology and Biotechnology of Rospotrebnadzor have developed a new diagnostic test system for detecting the Haseki virus, recently identified in ticks. According to researchers, this virus is widespread in Siberia and the Far East. The federal service reported that the development was carried out within the framework of the federal project “Sanitary Shield” (direction “Safety for Health: Prevention, Detection, and Response”).

The new test system has high sensitivity and specificity. The center’s production facilities make it possible to produce the necessary number of tests to ensure epidemiological surveillance of this virus in Russia.

The Vector Center researchers are studying the various types of viruses carried by ticks in Russia. The data obtained is critically important for preventing potential epidemics, improving diagnostics, and developing vaccines and medicines.

Earlier it was reported that Vector Virology Research Center has developed and patented a method to produce an antiviral agent based on fungal extracts. The study involved the use of three types of basidium fungi: chaga, oyster mushroom, and blushing bracket.
