The All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Animal Health has released a comprehensive vaccine for cats, according to a statement from the Rosselkhoznadzor (Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance), under whose authority the institute operates. The polyvalent vaccine Carnifel PCHR is described in the statement as “the first domestic vaccine to offer protection against both infectious diseases and rabies.”
The vaccine is designed to prevent panleukopenia, calicivirus, viral rhinotracheitis, and rabies in cats. Healthy animals are eligible for vaccination: kittens receive two doses beginning at three months of age, with annual revaccinations thereafter. Unvaccinated adult cats require two doses administered 21 days apart.
“The new drug will provide veterinary clinics, breeders, and animal disease control stations to use a vaccine created based on relevant strains, thereby ensuring the country’s epizootic well-being,” the statement notes.
In March, it was reported that Russia would allocate 5 billion rubles for the development of domestic veterinary drugs until 2030.
