An Expert Council for the Strategic Development of the Pharmaceutical Industry’s Human Resources Potential has been established in Russia, TASS reports, citing the EAEU Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers.

The report notes that the task of the Council, based at Sechenov University, is to “develop a strategy for the advanced training of specialists to create domestic original drugs and ensure the country’s technological sovereignty.” The association believes the new body will “unite the efforts of the state, business, science, and education to solve the problem of personnel shortages in the high-tech pharmaceutical industry.”

“The creation of the expert council is a necessary step for the systematic resolution of personnel issues in one of the most socially significant industries. The council’s work will enable more effective analysis of market needs, prompt modernization of educational programs and standards, and enhance the practical training of future specialists,” said Vadim Tarasov, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Technological Development of the university.

The idea of creating the expert council was discussed at a strategic session involving Sberbank, Sechenov University, and the association. A project office at Sechenov University will ensure communication among stakeholders, coordination and implementation of specific projects, experience exchange, and scaling of best practices.

Experts forecast that the personnel shortage in the pharmaceutical industry has already reached 30% and will continue to grow.
