Russia will implement genetic technologies and advance personalized medicine at the state level, according to a healthcare development strategy until 2030 approved last week, as reported by RIA Novosti, which has seen the document.
Personalized medicine takes into account individual patient characteristics when selecting treatment tactics and preventing diseases. The strategy also provides for the introduction of new medical and genetic technologies, including pharmacogenetics and predictive genetics. Pharmacogenetics studies how genetic factors influence a drug’s effect on a specific individual, while the predictive approach involves identifying hereditary predispositions to certain diseases for preventive measures.
As previously reported by GxP News, expected outcomes of the strategy’s implementation also include increasing the share of domestically produced drugs in the vital and essential medicines list to 90%. The document outlines measures to address staffing shortages, aiming to achieve a ratio of 43.46 doctors and 85.12 nursing staff per 10,000 people.
