Nuclear medicine to be developed in the Dubna economic zone

Fabrika Radioterapevticheskoy Produktsii (Factory of Radiotherapeutic Equipment, part of R-Pharm) and the Synergia Research and Technical Center have created a joint venture, R-Atom, for the development, production, supply, and implementation of nuclear medicine solutions. Production will be located at the factory’s site in the Dubna special economic zone (SEZ).

“The localization of key solutions for the R-Atom project is planned to be deployed at the production facilities of the Fabrika RTT in the Dubna SEZ this year. The goal of the project is to develop a radiochemical production complex and create a full cycle of integrated supplies for the development of nuclear medicine in Russia. The investment volume for the project will be about 500 million rubles,” the press service of the economic zone quotes the Minister of Investments, Industry, and Science of the Moscow Region, Ekaterina Zinovieva.

The key development will be the RPET radiochemical complex, designed for the full cycle of manufacturing radiopharmaceuticals for radioisotope diagnostics (including PET/CT) and radionuclide therapy. “The complex will combine domestic engineering solutions with deep localization of individual technological units and equipment,” the statement notes.

It is assumed that the joint venture will supply medical organizations with technological elements for nuclear medicine and radionuclide therapy departments, including synthesis and packaging modules for radiopharmaceuticals, protective boxes, cyclotrons, and auxiliary infrastructure for isotope production, etc. R-Atom will also provide implementation and maintenance services for its projects.

“Together with the Fabrika RTT, we are implementing key solutions for nuclear medicine. Within the framework of the federal project ‘Fighting Oncological Diseases’ and a number of private projects, R-Atom plans to implement at least 15 complexes by 2032 to meet the regions’ need for the development of nuclear medicine,” noted the founder of Synergia, Veniamin Tonkiy.

As GxP News was earlier told by Grigory Roytberg, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Head of the Department of Therapy, General Medical Practice, and Nuclear Medicine at the Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University, nuclear medicine in Russia has kept developing over the last 10-15 years. At the same time, regarding the number of patients receiving radiation therapy, a “more or less decent situation” is found only in Moscow.
