Scientists at Sechenov University (First Moscow State Medical University) are developing a line of cosmetic products based on exosomes — natural extracellular vesicles that play a key role in tissue regeneration. The technology for obtaining the components has been entirely developed at the university, allowing for production to be scaled up.
Development of a line of cosmetic products based on exosomes — natural extracellular vesicles involved in intercellular communication and tissue regeneration processes — is nearing completion at Sechenov University, the university’s press service told GxP News. The line will include a face and neck cream, an active facial serum, and an intensive hand cream, they specified.
Sechenov University explained that they undertook the development of cosmetics specifically with these components because exosomes are seen as a promising tool for skin restoration and maintaining its structural integrity.
“Exosomes have been actively studied in regenerative medicine, but introducing such technologies into clinical practice faces a number of fundamental difficulties. Therefore, the transition from medicine — where exosomes have been primarily in demand for personalized applications — to cosmetic products seems quite logical. With topical application, the desired result can be achieved, and the use of standardized plant raw materials makes it possible to guarantee this result,” noted Professor Galina Ramenskaya, Director of the Sechenov University Institute of Pharmacy named after A.P. Nelyubin.
One of the key features of the development is the proprietary technology for obtaining exosomes — the scientists do not use ready-made components but isolate them themselves, the Sechenov University press service noted. The created protocols make it possible to significantly increase the yield of exosomes and scale up their production, accelerating and simplifying the purification process while maintaining the high quality of the isolates.
In late February 2026, R-Pharm announced that it plans to begin distributing products for the Russian aesthetic medicine market.
