The Russian anti-COVID-19 vaccine Sputnik V was registered in Iran, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Tuesday.
“I would like to inform you that the Sputnik V vaccine was registered in Iran yesterday. It was approved by our sanitary authorities, and in the near future, we hope, we will be able to purchase it, as well as start joint production with the relevant institutions participation in Russia and Iran”, RIA Novosti quoted Zarif during a press conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
According to the WHO, about 1.4 million cases of coronavirus were recorded in Iran, the disease killed 57.5 thousand people.
The Sputnik V vaccine was registered in August 2020. It is based on a well-studied platform of human adenovirus vectors and has already received regulatory approval in Russia, Belarus, Argentina, the UAE, Hungary, Serbia, Bolivia, Algeria, Palestine, Venezuela, Paraguay and Turkmenistan. In India, the Russian drug is undergoing the third stage of testing, according to Venkatesh Varma, Moscow ambassador, they plan to register the vaccine within several weeks.
