The Main Directorate for Drug Control (DGDA) under the Ministry of Health of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh approved the use of the Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine in the country, the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) reports.
Registration was carried out as part of the accelerated procedure (emergency use authorization, EUA). The People’s Republic of Bangladesh became the 62nd country in which Sputnik V is registered. The total number of inhabitants of these states is 3.2 billion people.
Post-vaccination studies in a number of countries demonstrate that Sputnik V is the safest and most effective vaccine against coronavirus. In terms of the number of approvals received by state regulators, Sputnik V ranks second in the world.
“Bangladesh is one of the most populated states in Asia, and the use of the Russian vaccine will help save the lives of many people in the country. Diversification of the national vaccine portfolio thanks to the registration of the Sputnik V drug will provide Bangladeshis with access to one of the best coronavirus vaccines in the world, approved for use in more than 60 countries, “said Kirill Dmitriev, CEO of the RDIF.
Currently, the use of the Sputnik V vaccine has also been approved in Russia, Belarus, Argentina, Bolivia, Serbia, Algeria, Palestine, Venezuela, Paraguay, Turkmenistan, Hungary, the UAE, Iran, the Republic of Guinea, Tunisia, Armenia, Mexico, Nicaragua, Republika Srpska (entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina), Lebanon, Myanmar, Pakistan, Mongolia, Bahrain, Montenegro, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Gabon, San Marino, Ghana, Syria, Kyrgyzstan, Guyana, Egypt, Honduras, Guatemala, Moldova, Slovakia, Angola, Djibouti, Republic of the Congo, Sri Lanka, Laos, Iraq, North Macedonia, Kenya, Morocco, Jordan, Namibia, Azerbaijan, Philippines, Cameroon, Seychelles, Mauritius, Vietnam, Antigua and Barbuda, Mali, Panama, India and Nepal.
