Russian regions have received a shipment of approximately 300,000 doses of the updated Sputnik Light vaccine, designed specifically to combat COVID-19 with its improved antigenic composition. The modified drug was introduced into civilian circulation in December 2023.
“Everything that was requested was shipped – 294,750 bottles,” said the director of the National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology. N. F. Gamaleyi of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation Alexander Ginzburg. The drug successfully completed clinical trials, demonstrating a promising safety and immunogenicity profile, along with a low occurrence of notable side effects.
According to Gunzburg, the composition of anti-coronavirus vaccines should be updated every 9–10 months. At the same time, the development time is approximately two to three months, he noted.
