A committee on oncological diseases in HIV-infected patients has been established in Russia

The Association of Russian Oncologists (AOR) has created a special committee dealing with the problems of cancer patients with HIV infection, the press service of the National Medical Research Center (NMRC) of Radiology of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation reports.

“To unite the efforts of specialists in oncology and infectious diseases, at the initiative of the President of the Association of Oncologists of Russia, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Andrey Kaprin, a special committee dealing with the problems of cancer patients with HIV infection has been created in the AOR,” the message says.

The Committee is headed by Natalia Falaleeva, Head of the Department of Medicamentous Therapy of Malignant Neoplasms of the branch of NMRC of Radiology,  A. Tsyb Medical Radiological Research Center. It is noted that the committee will analyze clinical experience, develop and implement clinical recommendations, provide expert and practical support to doctors facing similar clinical situations in their practice, interdisciplinary interaction of oncologists, infectious disease specialists, hematologists, phthisiologists, morphologists and other specialists.

According to the NMRC of Radiology, there are currently about 1.3 million people with HIV in Russia. It is noted that malignant neoplasms are the most common cause of death in this group of patients.
