Mikhail Mishustin, the Russian Prime Minister, has signed a decree on the procedure for state control over price markups for medicines that are included in the list of vital and essential drugs (VED). This was reported in the press service of the Government of the Russian Federation.

The task of checking the documents that show markups calculation by the regional health authorities is assigned to the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS). The data on the outcomes of the control and the measures taken to eliminate violations will be displayed in the unified register.

It is planned to hold such events no more than once every two years and according to the approved plan. But inspections may be also held on an unscheduled basis, if ordered by the president, the government, or the Prosecutor General’s Office, or based on appeals from individuals or organizations.

“It is important to maintain a balance in the pharmaceutical market so that vital medicines remain affordable for our citizens,” Mishustin said.

Earlier it became known that the FAS reported a decrease in prices for over 7,000 VED items, by an average of 35%.

It is reported that Mishustin also called for ensuring equal availability of medicines in the EAEU.
