The FSUE “Moscow Endocrine Plant”, subordinate to the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia, purchased and imported five thousand packages of TN Petnidan, INN ethosuximide (250 mg capsules N 100, Germany), a drug unregistered in the Russian Federation that is intended for medical care to children with epileptic seizures. This was reported in the press service of Endopharm.

“Children should receive medicine as soon as possible,” Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said on November 29 during a meeting with deputy prime ministers.

The drug with INN ethosuximide is an antiepileptic therapy. Indications for the use of the drug include: pycnoleptic absences, as well as complex and atypical convulsive seizures; minor myoclonic-astatic seizures (petit mal); juvenile myoclonic seizures (impulsive petit mal).

“The legal mechanism created by the Russian government, streamlined interaction between executive authorities, as well as the experience of FSUE “Endopharm” in the purchase and import of unregistered medicines made it possible to procure and import to the Russian Federation the full amount of ethosuximide necessary for the treatment of children, and it did not take more than one week,” the message says.

On December 7, the imported batch of the drug was transferred to AO “Pharmimex” for delivery to medical organizations determined by Russia’s Ministry of Health in 82 regions of the country.

The purchase and the import and delivery of Petnidan were financed by AO “Pharmimex”.

The Circle of Kindness has called for the introduction of a zero tax on the import of unregistered medicines into the Russian Federation.
