Shvabe Holding of Rostec State Corporation has completed technical tests of a complex for tumor diagnosis and treatment. It will be the first domestically developed medical equipment that allows removing neoplasms by ultrasound exposure. The facility will be put in operation in 2024.

According to Oleg Yevtushenko, Rostec‘s executive director, the DIATER-M HIFU complex is based on a method that does not require anesthesia and/or the administration of potent drugs, but is nevertheless is highly accurate.

The complex underwent preclinical trials jointly conducted by the N.N. Petrov National Medical Research Center of Oncology and the Pavlov First Saint Petersburg State Medical University. In the near future, it is planned to complete the registration of the device with Roszdravnadzor and the HIFU complex will be put into practice in Russian clinics, mainly in surgical departments and oncological centers.

HIFU therapy is a non-invasive treatment with the use of focused ultrasound waves of high intensity. Worldwide, this method is considered to be one of the safest and most effective ways to fight cancer.

The DIATER-M project is conducted by Novosibirsk Instrument Making Plant (NPZ) of the Shvabe Holding in cooperation with Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU).
