A project will be launched in the Murmansk region aimed at combating vitamin D deficiency among residents. The program starts on January 26 in the regional center – Murmansk, and then will spread to other localities. The head of the region, Andrei Chibis, announced at an operational meeting that mobile service points will be reaching remote villages at the same time.
Murmansk is set to launch express diagnostic points in three shopping centers. The procedure will take up to 20 minutes. If deficiencies are found, residents will be given free medications. 100 million rubles will be used from the regional budget for the program in 2023.
Chibis reports that over 50% of Russians suffer from a vitamin D deficiency, but individuals living in the Far North face an even greater risk due to challenging weather conditions.
