Over the past decade, the pharmaceutical cluster of the Kaluga region has seen a remarkable 15-fold increase in drug production, soaring from 5 to 75 billion rubles. At a meeting of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy, Governor Vladislav Shapsha announced that pharmaceutical enterprises in the region are currently manufacturing 240 different types of finished medicines. There are two special economic zones (SEZs) in the region, which unite about 70 enterprises for the production and research of drugs. It is planned to build another SEZ with a pharmaceutical focus.
“The popularity of this area is high, and we approached the Government of the Russian Federation with a proposal to create another SEZ site. <…> This decision was agreed upon with all ministries. I think that we will begin construction in the near future,” the governor noted.
Let us remind you: the construction of Russia’s first plant for the production of radiopharmaceuticals is underway in the region. It is planned to produce a number of drugs and pharmaceutical substances here, including the most popular products based on iodine-131, samarium-153, and molybdenum-99.
