The Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Mishustin, emphasized the crucial importance of providing comprehensive support to agro-industrial enterprises. These companies play a vital role in strengthening food security not only in Russia but also in partner countries that are part of the Eurasian Economic Union, such as Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. To achieve this, he called for a stronger focus on the development of industries such as agricultural machinery, breeding and genetics, enzyme production, food and feed additives, and veterinary drugs.
According to him, this will help increase the results of the agro-industrial complexes of the “five” EAEU countries and fully unleash the Union’s potential in terms of food independence.
Mishustin emphasized that the territories of the EAEU countries encompass approximately 10% of the world’s arable land, equivalent to an impressive 320 million hectares. Furthermore, these countries boast an abundant tenth of the global fresh water reserves.
“We have more than 13% of the world’s wheat reserves and more than 16% of the world’s barley reserves. And for fertilizers, too, if we talk about nitrogen and phosphate fertilizers – more than 10% of the world’s reserves, and for potash – more than 40%. Russia and Kazakhstan have about a third of world production in terms of sunflower and sunflower oil. For milk. We supply approximately 6% of pasteurized milk and 5% of skimmed milk powder with Belarus. Are there enough arguments? – he added, explaining why the EAEU should be concerned with the development of the agricultural industry.
