Throughout the entire observation period, Russia officially reported only three cases of monkeypox infection (mpox), according to Alexander Gorelov, Deputy Director for Research at the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology under Rospotrebnadzor. He did not provide a specific period. Notably, the first recorded human infection occurred in 1970, when a nine-month-old boy in the Democratic Republic of the Congo was diagnosed.
“But most importantly, a drug for monkeypox has been registered in Russia. [All stages of testing have been completed], and a vaccine has been developed. There is diagnostics, there is a drug, and we have a vaccine,” Gorelov added, speaking at a press conference dedicated to the prevention of seasonal diseases.
